I have been gathering wood pallets for our master bedroom. I will be putting them on our wall and making a vintage wood wall. I'm really excited for how it will look. For those who haven't read my previous diy posts, I am DIY-ing our whole house. We realized because of the economy, we can't sell our house right now. We bought it right before the crash so we're fixing it up and making it "feel old and cozy". We love old homes and always pictures ourselves in one but now, who knows when we will be able to sell our 2003 built suburban vinyl home so we are trying to make the best of it and enjoy the home we have. It is rather cute, just needs some "old" and "vintage" accents so that's what we are doing. I have a feeling in a couple weeks their will be lots of before and after photos for many rooms in the house. right now, they are gutted and messy and well, not so cute. I should also mention I am doing all of the immediate projects on a $1000 budget (total!) so they will be very creative and not as over the top as wanted but they will look good for now and then we will be finishing the basement (which of course will cost us a lot more than $1000.00 so stay tuned for that).

wood pallet DIY projects

I love wood pallets! mainly, because they are free! or very cheap. Contact local companies and stores in your area and see if they have any they are getting rid of. You can also drive around your town and see if you see any neglected ones in dumpsters near businesses or on the side of the road. We were surprised with how many we found. If you have no luck; look on craigslist or ksl and type in "wood pallets". You will find quite a few options. Sometimes they cost a little. We bought a lot of them for like $30 but they are relatively cheap when you add in buying wood like that new. Now, wood pallets give a very vintage old look. They are worn wood so you will need to sand them before painting and using them. If you are wanting a "new" or perfect look, this is not the project for you. No two pallets will be perfectly like but it does give a lot of character.
