Monogrammed Fabric Wall Decor

We made this for Cruz's room and I love it. It is simple and sweet and a bonus!, incredibly easy to make. It also was inexpensive. This is a simple flour sack towel with some Curtain Grommets. You can purchase the the flour sack towels at Walmart or Target for about $1 each.

The Painted "C" was used with spray paint and a stencil. It was a bit of a windy day and that was the hardest part because I ruined my first flour sack towel when spraying against the wind so that is my biggest piece of wisdom: Dont be an idiot like me and spray on a windy day. I have done this before and have still not learned my lesson. Anyway, I ended up blowing some paint outside of the stencil because of the wind and had to start over. Once the wind stopped, it was simple.

I created the stencil myself but you could easily purchase one on amazon.com. I made my own by purchasing a poster board and then I hand drew the letter and cut it out with a utility knife. It might be even sturdier and better with a foam board if you want to use it more than one. The poster worked well but I did have to tape it down really well so the paint doesn't bleed.

IMPORTANT: I placed the stencil backwards because I wanted to give it a faded look and I realized that by painting backwards and then hanging it up on the other side that had not been painted on would create that look. You can still easily see the paint from the other side.

Paper Glitter Mickey Ears

We had quite the hot diggity dog party this week for my son Cruz's birthday. He loves Mickey Mouse and so well, we put on our ears and danced. (p.s. nothing is cuter than 2 year olds having a dance party am I right?)
Today I am going to talk about our super easy paper glitter mickey ears. I read many tutorials on how to make mickey ears using a headband. The tutorials were pretty easy but a little time consuming. Many of them used felt for the ears with a foam piece in the middle and a few others used thick foam sheets.They are all great options but I had 20 toddlers to make them for and I also did not have very much time so I wanted something a little easier than the many options I was seeing. I even looked into just purchasing some cheap ones but the ones I found were really ugly and still pretty expensive. I eventually decided that glitter cardstock would be my best friend. I purchased 12x12 glitter cardstock sheets and traced mickey ears with a little lip after them that I could bend around the headband and hot glue to it. I do think if you are making them to last for years, I wouldn't choose paper. Ours have lasted though for over a week and my kids have not been gentle with them, In fact they have thrown them and stepped on them many times.
To make this, be sure to get:
Black headbands (found mine at dollar tree)
Black glitter cardstock
Scissors (if you don't already have them)
Hot Glue and a Hot Glue Gun (also, if you don't already have it)

DIY Half Door

DIY half door tutorial

I love half doors but when I looked up the prices for one, I screamed in agony. They were just so expensive and of course, I'm a bit of a cheap skate. When I realized that I had no interest in spending that kind of money, I did what I always do-- find a way to do it myself and make it cheaper.

I found a great tutorial at Ana white. I took some inspiration from them and just went for it.

Here is the step by step tutorial:

1. I took the full and boring door that was already in place and took it off the hinges. As most of you know, new Doors are hollow and so it isn't too hard to cut it in half. The issue is the hinges. You want the door to still be stable and it can't rely on only one hinge and so it has to be a little bigger than half of the door.

2. I cut it a little above the middle hinge and so it would hold onto the first two hinges and then just ignore the top hinge. You want to make sure and measure where to cut and then use a circular saw to go at the door. Always be sure to be safe and smart when using tools. Wear safety glasses, hold the door down with clamps so it doesn't move, and make sure you are not distracted.

3. After the door is cut, you can find a piece of wood like a 2x2 at the hardware store and get it cut as the ledge to go over the top of the door that you have cut. Their also is a small piece that should go against the back of the door and be nailed into the door and then into the ledge. I stained mine using a dark stain but you could choose any color you like. When I put on a stain, I used a rubber glove and an old sock over that. It just works the best for laying down a nice clean stain on the wood. We also got 1 more skinny piece of wood and used wood glue to attach it underneath the front side of the ledge to make it look more clean and finished.

5. Last, if you want to paint the door, tape away and paint the door and then enjoy your side door.

5. Little Mermaid. The princess from the sea with ruffles, and a beach feel makes this room scream out little mermaid. You could also add a little bit of red to create the complete feel of the little mermaid. Also adding beach accents like seashells and coral could keep the reminder of her ocean lifestyle. 6. The Beauty & The Beast- Belle has a mix of country and castle in her. I loved the look of this room. It's elegant but simple. The shade of yellow is perfect for a bedroom because it's not overpowering and still relaxing. The source is: Yellow Bedroom

8. Tangled- hanging lanterns and pastel shades make this room remind you of the the recent movie, Tangled. I love the happiness of this room. It's very playful. 14. Bambi. I love the sweet but rustic elegance of this room. The branch with little stars hanging and the mix matched bedding make me think of a humble but adorable beginning which definitely feels to the movie of Bambi. It could be really cute to have a few vintage deer figurines sitting on the bedside table too! source: elle decor

15. Lion King--this reminded me so much of the son in the lion king. I loved the gold and how much you see suns everywhere! Even though it is quite elegant, you can definitely picture the nature and safari feel from Simba and the pridelands. Source: red cover

17. Mickey Mouse- Classic Mickey is hard to put together and make it ot look too cheesy. All of these are supposed to fit in adult rooms so I didn't want mickey ears everywhere but I tried to find a picture that stuck to the color theme of black and red and was classy and timeless. 18. Dumbo- Dumbo was also a hard one to find. You dont want anything overdone or kiddish, so I searched for stripes that go a long with a carnival theme and a grayish color just like dumbo. I like what I found and do think it embodies Dumbo and the movie. Source: house to home by decor pad

19. Jungle Book- Love this room! Lots of different shades of green. The floor lamps and basket weaved rug fit perfectly in creating a jungle bedroom that mowgli and balou would adore. Source: house to home

Fabulous Red, White, & Blue Ideas

I am so proud to be an american on days like this. I remember all that I am grateful for and the incredible sacrifice so many people have chosen to give in order to help and protect our country. I think of my loved ones that have passed, and the stars and stripes that are on our flag.
